SHOWEM' WHAT YOU GOT Portfolio Reviews
March 5th, 2016.
I went to this event at Center Stage Gallery and met Christophe. I have learned some important things after I talked with him:
- My portfolio must have the best of my artworks which I am 100% satisfied.
- My portfolio should have no more than 15 pieces of artworks.
- I should show more pieces about character design which is my major.
- I can put 1 to 2 pieces of figure drawings to show my foundation.
- The principles of character design are shapes, sizes, edges and proportions.
- Using overlapping lines and shadows to show the volume of 2D characters.
- It is better to show some character drawings in colors.
- The industry of 2D and 3D animation link together nowadays.
- It is better to create portfolio digitally because it is easier to carry and send it to someone else.
- The books he recommended is "Henry Yan's Figure Drawing (Techniques and Tips)" by Henry Yan and "Color and Light" by James Gurney.
My Plans to Improve My Artistic Skills and Grow My Audience
- Perform a new habit: Sketch everyday!
- Have a book of sketches and make it measurable.
- Design more characters!
- Update my blog and website once a week.
- Find some time to do my personal project and set it as a long term goal.
- Pick one core object, even my project could be a lot of things, and then focus on that core object.
- Attend art shows and events.
- Meet and communicate with other artists.
